- Elvis and Cinderella come together in new play
By ZIEMAN
(North Platte Telegraph, December 18 2005)
PETALING JAYA: Cinderella in a rock and roll pantomime theme? And it does not stop there. It will also have a huge dose of Elvis Presley music. This is the latest offering by The Actors Studio at the Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (KLPac) starting on Dec 22. "It is a new interpretation of Cinderella; something you can never imagine. The ugly stepsisters are men, the prince has a best friend who is a girl and the glass slipper is a blue suede shoe," said Mazin Ameen Siraj, who is playing the role of Prince Charming.
According to Mazin, director Paul Loosley has injected much fun in the play where a dozen of Elvis' classics like Rockin' Tonight, Hound Dog, All Shook Up, Love Me Tender would be rendered by the actors while the costumes are inspired by the 50s era. Even the carriage is a convertible car from the 50s. ...

By GRACE CHEN
(The Star, October 21, 2005)
MALAYSIA -- If you think Elvis fever only affects the old, meet Alex Wong, a 30-year-old accountant who caught the bug because his father regards Elvis a godsend. The closest Wong got to Elvis was during a visit to Graceland, Elvis' home in Memphis, Tennessee in 2002. Though he was excited at the beginning, Wong says he came away sad. "What we can learn from this is to appreciate someone when he is still alive. After he is dead, it is no use. Deep in my heart, I would like to see Elvis in person but the closest I can get to him is to do what he did, that is to sing his songs,' he sighs. Wong emerged the winner of the Search for Elvis competition organised by Light & Easy in Oct 2002. "I never thought I would get that far," confesses Wong, who has been impersonating Elvis for three years. ...

- Lavrov Dresses as Darth Vader
(Moscow Times / Associated Press, August 1, 2005)
VIENTIANE, Laos -- From a galaxy far, far away, the Russian Darth Vader lands in Asia, filled with suspicion and hate. He leaves convinced that Asia's "motives are good" and that it may hold the force to reshape the world. The skit at a gala dinner by the Russian delegation, with Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov dressed as "Star Wars" villain Darth Vader, was the talk on Friday of a security conference hosted by the Association of Southeast Asian Nations. Other performances late Thursday by foreign ministers, part of an annual ASEAN tradition, included Australia's Alexander Downer singing an Elvis Presley number.
