  • The Long Awaited Elvis Slot Launches Online and Rock and Rolls
    (PRWEB, March 26, 2008)
It's been a long wait for the online version of the Wagerworks' Elvis Slot, but it's finally arrived and the UK's leading online casino reviews website Oggs.com is pleasantly 'all shook up' as it reviews Vegas' favourite in a special section created for the 'King of the slots'. The Elvis multistrike online slot with its exciting bonus features really rock and rolls.

The Elvis slot was supposed to appear in 2007, but it's taken longer than expected to finally make it on to the Internet. The original casino slot machine version was a firm favourite in Vegas and has even appeared as a fruit machine variant in the UK, but the online Elvis Slot version has all the extras of the original and is so much better for it. Wagerworks has done a fine job converting the many great features and keeping the immersive play fresh online.

The Elvis Slot surprisingly is found on only two online casinos presently, Virgin Casino and Paddy Power Casino. Being a Wagerworks' slot it will also therefore not be found on online casinos accepting US players. Whether it will be made available for US players in the future is not certain and it's a shame that the online slot cannot be played by Elvis' fellow countrymen, but what is certain is that loads more non-US online casinos will carry it in the coming months. No doubt Elvis fans all over the world will be keen to play.

The boom over the past year for themed online slots doesn't look like abating, with Osbournes Slot, Hitman Slot, Wolfrun Slot appearing in quick succession of each other, with still to come the eagerly anticipated queen of slots Lara Croft - Tombraider 2 Slot. It's no surprise too when the industry creates easy to get into slots like the Elvis Slot with its accessible non-download version which is available and packed with so many bonus features. In the new slot the Mr Presley himself accompanies the player with songs, words and video footage on bonus win areas like the 2x and 4x multistrike, Fan-o-Meter, Pick a TV and Photo Memories. Like a Viva Las Vegas show he accompanies wins with some well chosen words and lyrics.

The King is back and like its land based slot counterpart, the Elvis multistrike slot definitely rocks and rolls. As the great man himself sang... 'A little less conversation, a little more action please.'

Oggs.com is the leading online casino reviews website that has been publishing reputable and honest appraisals on hundreds of the Internet's best online casinos for several years. Its experienced panel of casino players and judges, provide reviews on the best slots, poker, bingo and other online casino games which culminate each year in the awarding of honours to the best sites and operators in the highly acclaimed and sort after Oggs Online Casino Awards.

The Oggs website was relaunched in the autumn of 2007 and has been growing both its content and traffic through the addition of new sections as it attempts to help new players and regulars learn about and enjoy the best online casino and gaming sites available across the Net worldwide.

  • Original Elvis Photos Create Buzz (Cut)
    By Amy Sherrill
(Times Record, Fort Smith, Arkansas, March 26, 2008)
On the 50th anniversary of Elvis Presley's haircut during his induction into the Army at Fort Chaffee, five black and white images of the original event have surfaced. The photos, which likely ran in the Southwest American newspaper, were discovered by Rick Altes, a photographer from Greenwood, about three years ago during an estate sale, he said. Altes, 55, spoke to a group of more 30 people who gathered Tuesday where Presley lost his dyed-black locks in building 803 at now-Chaffee Crossing.

Presley died from health problems on Aug. 16, 1977, at age 42.

... The Fort Smith Convention and Visitors Bureau received the images from Altes as a donation and the Visitors Bureau will display the photos until there is an Elvis barbershop museum. ...

  • Priscilla Presley wins praise from dance judges for her feline floor show
    (Daily Mail, March 25, 2008)
Priscilla Presley has been attracting catty comments for her increasingly feline features that perhaps betray a flirtation with cosmetic surgery. But her dance routine on show Dancing With The Stars saw her make fun of her much-criticised image, with a raunchy routine which saw her crawl across the floor just like a slinky big cat. The ex-wife of Elvis crawled along the dance floor in a leopard print dress last night as she danced the mambo with professional dance partner Louis van Amstel.

And as well as being a crowd-pleaser, the strange performance from the 62-year-old star actually impressed the judges. Carrie Ann Inaba said: "You are so glamorous and sexy. You have this special alluring quality that draws you right into the dance. Bruno Tonioli added: "Go for that sexuality!" Presley is the oldest female contestant ever to have appeared on the U.S. show. A point which co-presenter Samantha Harris pointed out calling her the most 'mature' contestant on the show. Ouch!. Priscilla was supported by her pregnant daughter Lisa Marie Presley, who was in the audience to cheer on her mother.

Meanwhile, Priscilla has been named as one of the victims of a horrific plastic surgery scam perpetrated on high-profile Hollywood stars. An unlicensed doctor claiming to have a new 'miracle drug' reportedly injected the once glamorous ex-wife of Elvis with industrial low-grade silicone said to be similar to that used by mechanics to grease car parts. Argentinian born Daniel Serrano, was unlicensed in the U.S. when he performed the cosmetic procedure in 2003. Serrano is also believed to have performed procedures on Lionel Richie's ex wife Diane, and U.S. talk show host Larry King's wife Shawn.Priscilla is reportedly undergoing further treatment to correct the injections given by Serrano.

Serrano, who went by the name of Dr Daniel, charged thousands of dollars to inject his 'anti-ageing solutions' after becoming friends with a group of ageing Hollywood stars. Authorities were called in to investigate Serrano after complaints that the injections caused lumps, paralysis and holes in the faces of some of the women and some men he injected. He was sentenced to 18 months in prison in 2005 on charges related to the illegal injections.

  • ELVIS PRESLEY - PRESLEY CAUGHT UP IN CONVICTED SURGEON SCANDAL
    (contactmusic.com, March 24, 2008)
ELVIS PRESLEY's ex-wife PRISCILLA is reportedly undergoing corrective surgery for a botched cosmetic procedure she had done in 2003. The socialite and actress, who is among the celebrities taking part in the current season of U.S. reality TV show Dancing With The Stars, was a client of Dr. Daniel Serrano, who was jailed for injecting industrial, low-grade silicone into women's faces, reports TMZ.com.Serrano claimed his injections worked better than Botox, but the non-approved drug he allegedly smuggled into America from Argentina left some clients with holes in their faces and paralysis. And he wasn't even licensed. Serrano was indicted for smuggling drugs, and the conspiracy and use of unapproved drugs, and convicted. He was released last week and is currently being investigated by federal immigration officials, and could be deported.Presley's publicist has issued a "no comment" to TMZ.com's claims.

    (myeyewitnessnews.com, March 24, 2008)
Elvis fans can now enjoy two new exhibits of the King of Rock and Roll. The exhibits chronicle two key periods in Elvis' life: "Private Presley" covers his induction into the U.S. Army 50 years ago, and "Elvis 68" is about the King's "68 Special". "68 Special" includes the white suit made famous by Presley. The new exhibits are housed at the Graceland Visitor Center.

  • Elvis' First Visit in 1956 Not Forgotten
    By Cinnamon Bair
    (theledger.com, March 23, 2008)
He wiggled and waggled on the stage. The girls giggled and squealed, screamed and sighed. The parents no doubt rolled their eyes and wondered how long the frenzy would last. "The present fervor of teen-agers for him will subside," the Lakeland Ledger stated in an editorial. "His contortions are vulgar and his quivering, high-strung, nervous style of singing is a long way from being high-class art."

Yet the phenomenon that surrounded Elvis Presley did not die. Fifty-two years after "The King" performed in Lakeland, his visit remains a cultural touchstone, while his signature on the wall of the Polk Theatre where he performed is a treasured relic.

Elvis had been on the music scene a little more than a year when he arrived for his three-show stint Aug. 6, 1956. "Hound Dog" was his current hit, and tongues everywhere were waggling about his wild hip gyrations. "It is impossible for the young man to stand still and sing rock 'n roll," Elvalee Donaldson wrote for The Ledger days before Elvis' arrival. "He says it shouldn't be sung without motion and claims all his wiggling only emphasizes the natural emotion which he feels."

Another Ledger reviewer was less kind. "Elvis Presley is the first burlesque dancer I've ever seen who didn't wear a rhinestone in his navel," Bob Swift wrote. "Of course, he kept his shirt and pants on during his routine, so it's still a moot point."

Teenaged girls, of course, didn't care about critics. They simply loved Elvis. "Frantic, determined teenagers jammed South Florida Avenue for a block each way in front of the Polk Theater today, determined to be the first to see Elvis Presley," Donaldson wrote. "One girl fainted."

For all the hoopla, Elvis' Lakeland performances were exceedingly brief. His manager, Col. Tom Parker, was an old carnival man and knew how to keep audiences on the hook. The "performances" served as a showcase for other up-and-coming talents of the day, including singers Ray Brankey, Nancy Ford, Frankie Connors, the Jordanaires and comedian Phil Maraquin. Elvis himself didn't appear until the last 15 minutes of the $1.50 show.

"At the end of a two-hour show, they saw a man walk across the stage in a two-tone tuxedo, guitar slung across his shoulders, and utter the following vocal tones for 15 minutes: 'oh, ooo, ah, hee, oo, eee, ah, oo.' That was it," Jack Skelly wrote in a Ledger review.

(If you can't tell, the snarky comments I found concerning Elvis' appearance absolutely crack me up. My favorite came from a local shopkeeper: "I'd be darned if I'd stand out there in the sun without any vittles all day long just to hear some guy play banjo.")

Although Elvis appeared in Lakeland twice more, it's his 1956 appearance that has remained the most memorable. And it was during that visit that he signed the dressing room wall at the Polk Theatre. Five decades later, the signature remains, although it's endured some damage. Recent flooding at the Polk Theatre damaged the wall and forced the autograph's temporary removal. The signature has since returned to the building, but the future of the theater itself remains to be seen.

  • Man who sold Nixon White House on youth drug study still at work
    (Wood TV 8 / AP, March 22, 2008)
President Nixon may not have dented the nation's drug epidemic when he named Elvis Presley a "federal agent at large" in the Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs in 1970. Seven years later, the pill-popping rock star was dead of an overdose and reefer madness had the nation's teens in its grip.

But a $120 million research program born in the Nixon administration continues to shape America's drug policies. It all started with a 33-year-old psychology graduate student's bold plan to poll thousands of teens nationwide each year about their drug habits and beliefs. Lloyd Johnston, now a gray-haired 67, still runs that study from the University of Michigan's Institute for Social Research. His group recently won a $33 million National Institute on Drug Abuse grant to continue through 2012. That brings total funding to $120 million. ...

  • More Firefox Bloat? Say It Ain't So, Mozilla
    (newmobilecomputing.com, March 22, 2008)
When Firefox launched in beta release five years ago, it burst on the open-source browser scene like a young Elvis Presley - slim, sexy and dangerous. Since then it has attracted millions of users, generally set the agenda for browser development and unseated Microsoft's IE as the de facto monopoly in the field. But, with Firefox 3.0 poised for release later this year, the 'IE killer' is in >danger of morphing into an early Fat Elvis, if increasing numbers of die-hard fans turned reluctant critics are any guide."

  • Yamaguchi leads ladies' night on 'Dancing': Unlike the failing fellows, the women wowed the crowd
    By Ree Hines
    (msnbc.msn.com, March 19, 2008)
Most of the men blew their "Dancing with the Stars" debut Monday night, but Tuesday gave the woman a chance to show what their dancing shoes could do. While the second part of the premiere event had its share of duds, by and large the ladies are leading the ballroom battle. The dances improved as the night wore on, leaving the potential ousters and early standouts easy to spot. In fact, if these routines predict what's to come, one star has the early edge on the coveted mirror ball trophy.

With energy and age come improvement

... The momentum changed when Priscilla Presley and Louis van Amstel presented their elegant foxtrot. At 62 years old, Priscilla's the oldest woman to ever dance in the competition, but her precision timing and smooth lines outshined the earlier offerings. As Louis led her across the floor, Elvis' ex really took to the ballroom business. Though she looked nervous at first (or happy or possibly even angry - it's hard to tell), Priscilla eased into the first real quality number of the night, much to the judges' approval. Len called it "a proper foxtrot," and like Bruno and Carrie Ann, awarded her an eight. ...

  • 'Elvettes' pay homage to the King
    (Cowra Guardian, March 19, 2008)
It's becoming a ritual that this group of Elvettes are going to find hard to top every year. Once again, the Cowra chapter of the Elvis Presley fan club made the annual pilgrimage to Parkes for the Elvis Festival.

This dedicated group of friends again showed their love of everything associated with The King by attending and participating this time as Elvettes. "We were in the parade this year and we rode on the back of a beautifully restored 1942 Ford pickup from Lithgow," said 'Elvette', Leanne Heilman. "We attended many shows often assisting other popular Elvis tribute artists." The 2008 group consisted of Christine McIntyre, Leanne Heilman, Julie Vandyke, Ricki Moore and Rhonda Kelton.

"We have a wonderful few days celebrating Elvis with other crazy Elvis fans from all over. It gets bigger and better each year, with very funny stuff happening all weekend," said Chris McIntyre.

  • Power up with pumpkin
    (havasunews.com, March 19, 2008)
Elvis Presley's fondness for peanut butter, banana and bacon sandwiches is part of American culinary history. But this high-fat sandwich leaves me crying in the chapel of nutrition. So I've taken the legendary crooner's favorite combo and kept it hearty, and yet made it healthier, and one that even your family will respond to with "thank you very much!"

A peanut butter lovers' dream, pumpkin and peanut butter blend easily together to create a spread that cuts the fat and calories of peanut butter alone. These two nutritional powerhouses are easily spread over whole wheat bread and covered with banana slices. For lunch or a quick snack, this really hits the spot.

That humble can of pumpkin on your pantry shelf inspires nutrition accolades and also daily, delicious ideas:
    * Enjoy it right out of the can! Stir pumpkin into peanut butter, applesauce, yogurt or hot cocoa to add a healthy dose of nutrients to your diet.
    * Rich in fiber, pumpkin helps curb appetite, keeping you satisfied between meals.
    * A one-half cup serving of pumpkin provides you with more than a day's requirement of Vitamin A, with only a half gram of fat.
    * Plus it's sodium free with an excellent source of fiber---all for only 40 calories.
    * What's in a name? If your recipe calls for "pure pumpkin," "solid pack pumpkin" or "pumpkin puree," they're all the same thing-100% pure pumpkin!
    * Have part of a can leftover? Place the pumpkin in a plastic container and store it in the refrigerator or freezer.
    * Did you know? It's pumpkin's bright orange color that indicates its rich content of antioxidants (carotenoids) which the body converts to essential Vitamin A.

For delicious ways to use pumpkin for fueling super-nutrition into your family's daily diet, visit www.VeryBestBaking.com.

  • Maker Of Elvis Presley's Sunglasses Moves To Bradenton
    (tbo.com / Sarasota Herald Tribune, March 17, 2008)
The company that made Elvis Presley's gold sunglasses (not to mention frames worn by Oprah Winfrey, Elizabeth Taylor and Queen Elizabeth II) has stealthily moved its U.S. distribution headquarters to Bradenton. High-end frames maker Neostyle, a 48-year-old German company with about $40 million in annual sales, also is launching direct-to-market distribution for the first time in more than 30 years.

The company had previously used a distributor in California for its U.S. operations. Neostyle USA, which is occupying about 1,000 square feet in the Bank of America building in downtown Bradenton, makes its frames in Italy and Germany. ...
