PRISCILLA Presley says she is offended by suggestions there is something wacky about her family.
Tabloid magazines this week labelled as "kooky kabuki" her daughter Lisa Marie's marriage to musician Michael Lockwood in Japan, with both wearing kimonos. "It does offend me," Presley told AAP in Sydney today. "It was not wacky in any sense of the word because you appreciate a culture and you appreciate tradition, that is wacky for somebody to say that." Lisa Marie and Lockwood exchanged vows in a traditional Japanese ceremony on January 22, both wearing traditional Japanese costumes. It was a fourth marriage for Lisa Marie who has previously been married to Nicolas Cage, Michael Jackson and Danny Keough, the father of her two children. Priscilla Presley walked her daughter down the aisle and gave her away.
"The wackiness isn't on our end," said Presley. "I don't think we have ever been known to be wacky. Maybe having lived our whole lives in front of everyone, things might look that way but this was so well thought out and she is very happy." Presley described Lisa Marie's wedding as "beautiful". "The wedding was everything she wanted and the mood was so tranquil and very traditional in dress," she said.
Priscilla Presley arrived in Australia on Saturday for the worldwide launch of her bed linen range with Australian fashion designer Bruno Schiavi, titled The Priscilla Presley Collection. The 60-year-old was married to Elvis from 1967 to 1973 and has two children, Lisa Marie with Presley and Navarone Garibaldi with partner Marco Garibaldi. She acknowledged that Elvis, who died of a heart attack in 1977, was always going to be a big part of her life. "It was such an impactful era that I think everyone feels they own a little bit of Elvis," she said after the launch at Sydney's inner city Myer department store. "As far as separating myself, I can't really deny that that was history and I was very much a part of history in that sense. "It was a great time, a great era and a great loss."
- Ghost of Elvis Appears on Office Depot Receipt
(Yahoo! News / PRWEB, February 28 2006)
Could this be the ghost of Elvis? Jenna Cage, 30 was looking up an Office Depot rebate receipt when she discovered the ghostly image of the King strangely manifested on the receipt itself. Jenna recounts the eerie circumstances leading to the discovery of the Elvis ghost. "Last month, shortly after Christmas, I purchased 2 laptops from Office Depot. There was a mail-in rebate offer which I immediately sent in after my purchase. I had not received the rebate check so I got out the copies of the rebate paperwork with intentions to call Office Depot so they can look up the status of my rebate. As I opened the folder to retrieve the original receipt, I almost fell out of my chair! On the receipt (right on top) was an eerie yet unmistakable ghostly image of none other than the King himself, ELVIS PRESLEY! The "ghostly image" contains very clear outlines of ELVIS' eyes, lips, and hair."
The question is how did the ghostly image appear or where did it come from? "I am not an Elvis fan", says Jenna. "I have nothing in my house that contains anything that is or connected with Elvis Presley. I have no idea how, why, or where the image came from. All I know is that the receipt is all original, unaltered, and exactly as it was when I got it from Office Depot," she states. The receipt, dated January 12, 2006, coincidentally marks exactly 33 years (the age of Jesus when he died) to the date of Elvis' "Alternate Aloha Concert" taped January 12, 1973 that drew in over 1.5 billion viewers and was the largest, most spectacular concert of the King of rock and roll ever. It also marks 4 days after the King's (would have been) 71st birthday.
Over 200 curious onlookers have viewed the auction in its first few hours. "I've already received several emails commenting on how the images could be anyone from James Dean to Abraham Lincoln", states Jenna. "But the lips --- the lips are definitely Elvis", she says. - Highland Parade attendance high for bizarre boodle and great weather
By Mary Jimenez
(Shreveport Times, February 27 2006)
A grocery cart pushed by Elvis, a gargantuan float from which riders threw Spam biscuits and dozens of decorated cars, trucks and flatbed trailers lured Highland neighbors outside Sunday and thousands more into the street to holler for the boodle of hot dogs, Moon Pies and other unusual items that distinguishes the annual Krewe of Highland Parade from all others. ...

''If you cannot read all your books, at any rate, handle them, and, as it were, fondle them. Let them fall open where they will. Make a voyage of discovery, taking soundings of an uncharted sea." Winston Churchill ''Retro kitsch. Thoroughly sophomoric." -- From a book review in ''Entertainment Weekly"
I don't know about you, but I haven't reached the junioric or senioric reading level required to subscribe to a publication like ''Entertainment Weekly," so I didn't read the above slam in the original. ... What got me thinking about the many delights of ''Cheese Monkeys" was spending time with the author's new book, ''Chip Kidd: Book One." The book is difficult to read; however, you just can't stop picking it up. Kidd has been designing book covers for Alfred Knopf for 20 years, and this is his retrospective. I don't expect you to be agog at the topic of book jackets. No, I have something else in mind. How did a directionless boy who went to a state university become famous in a field without fame? And when I say famous, Kidd was in a ''Jeopardy" question in 2002 (''His work at Alfred A. Knopf made Chip Kidd a superstar at designing these."). He is the Elvis of his industry, achieved from the position of associate art director. That's ''associate" art director. Yet ... the Elvis. ... So I pulled my eyes away from the bizarre and/or beautiful book jackets in his book and actually read some of the biographical material. In an era where we rarely hear a rags-to-riches story -- most of our cultural heroes started at the middle or higher -- Kidd makes for a new sort of story, lost-to-found. He didn't have a dream -- he had an aversion.

(Sydney Morning Herald, February 24 2006)
Bruce Lee ... died young. AMONG mysterious celebrity deaths it is up there with JFK and Elvis. But the myth surrounding the demise of Bruce Lee in Hong Kong in 1973 may finally have been solved. "The death of Bruce Lee, coming at such a young age and in the peak of physical fitness, has given rise to much speculation," said James Filkins, at Cook County medical examiner's office in Chicago. "Almost as soon as Lee died rumours began to surface." ...

- POSTCARDS FROM NFL EUROPE : POSTKARTEN AUS EUROPA - Will Svitek's European Diary

(Kansas City Chiefs, February 24 2006)
Hello again everybody. We're a week and a half into training camp now and I can definitely tell. The daily grind is in full force. It's always at this point that you lose track of what day of the week it is because it doesn't matter. Every day is the same. We had our first scrimmage against the Rhein Fire on Tuesday. ... My coach with the Frankfurt Galaxy is Ronald "Whitey" Jordan. He's actually a legendary coach here in NFL Europe. He's considered the best offensive line coach in the league, so it's a big treat to play for him. He's 69 years old and he's been coaching for 49 years. So he's got plenty of experience. He family friends with Chuck Cook, the Chiefs Director of College Scouting. He's big on fundamentals, drills and working hard, so it's been a treat working with him. Another little interesting tidbit about him is that he actually coached Elvis Presley in high school. So that's got to be an interesting story and I can't wait to hear every minute of it. We've been strategically waiting for a really hot day of training camp to ask Coach Jordan for the story. We figure we'll wait for a tiring, tough practice, then let him tell the whole Elvis saga and stall the practice. I'll be sure to pass on all the details whenever he tells us. ...
