(Yahoo! News / Reuters December 15, 2004)
Rose McGowan ("Charmed") is in negotiations to star in the CBS miniseries "Elvis," a biopic of the King of Rock 'n' Roll. McGowan will play Ann-Margret, Elvis Presley's co-star in the 1964 film "Viva Las Vegas," whose romance with the King during and after the making of the film created a stir and put a strain on his relationship with future wife Priscilla Beaulieu.
Ann-Margret, an Oscar-nominated actress and accomplished singer who was often referred as the female Elvis for her energetic performances, went on to become lifelong friends with Presley, with the two sending each other gifts and attending each other's shows until his death in 1977. She also attended Presley's funeral in Memphis.
CBS has yet to cast Elvis, despite a nationwide talent search. Randy Quaid was previously tapped to play Presley's manager "Colonel" Tom Parker.

- ARE YOU LOAFSOME TONIGHT?:" Sliced bread tribute to Elvis
By Ruki Sayid
(mirror.co.uk December 15, 2004)
ELVIS Presley fans are about to get all shook up over news that The King has risen. For bakers Kingsmill is creating bread shaped in the singer's image to celebrate his 70th birthday. Thousands of limited edition white loaves with each slice a side profile of his famous quiff, aquiline nose and jaw will be on shelves by January 8. Even the packaging carries the cheeky slogan "By appointment to the King". And though Elvis has been "brown bread" for 27 years, Kingsmill believes this is a chance for fans to literally toast the King of rock 'n' roll. Jo Sykes of Allied Bakeries said: "What better tribute to the great man than to bake him his own limited edition loaf."
The bakery has so far managed to steer clear of litigious Elvis Presley Enterprises by using lookalikes for its Ģ7million TV ads which show spoof footage of Elvis as a baker. Based around his only visit to the UK - an hour stopover at Glasgow Prestwick Airport in 1960 - the spoof documentary commercials reveal his first love was Kingsmill bread.
- Small performer draws big crowds
(kctv5.com December 14, 2004)
As the crowd filed in, many assisted by canes and walkers, with protruding fanny packs fastened around theirs waists and cameras around their necks, Duke Mason sat watching them at the back of the auditorium before he took the stage. "The average age is at least over 50," Mason said. Mason doesn't mind performing for the legions of elderly who show up daily at Precious Moments in mammoth tour buses. He said he's used to it. "Almost any crowd I perform in front of are an older crowd," he said, adding that his favorite crowds are responsive despite their age. "You can have younger people sitting there as dead as a doornail." When the lights dimmed, Mason hopped off his seat. He walked down the aisle, took center stage and briefly introduced himself to the crowd. Then he launched into a rollicking version of "Holly, Jolly Christmas." He was singing over canned music, but his voice rang out rich and deep, not unlike his idol, Elvis Presley.
... Mason has made a career for himself as a performer specializing mainly in rock 'n' roll from the '50s and '60s, specifically Elvis Presley, as well as gospel music. The kind of music he plays tends to skew his audience toward a more mature age, but he said when his band, the Duke Mason Band, is in full-on Elvis mode, it's surprising how much younger the crowd gets.
In his office at Precious Moments, where he carries out his job of entertainment coordinator, one of those kitsch Elvis clocks with the swaying hips, ticks away on his wall. There a framed collage of Elvis memorabilia as well as a poster of Mason dressed as Elvis from "Blue Hawaii" advertising one of The Duke Mason Band's shows. Mason began liking Elvis when he was younger and traveled around with his father, Lowell Mason, playing in churches with his dad. ...
