Hurricaine Rita
Advice from Jordan Richie of Elvicities:

As those in the US, and others around the world have been watching the current situation with Hurricane Rita
It is heading straight towards Galveston with major damage expected in Houston Texas. The bad news is, the datacenter that houses the ElviCities server, as well as the rest of the Jordan's Elvis World family of websites is located in Houston. The datacenter has told me they are prepared for this disaster, but as we have learned with hurricane Katrina many things can go wrong with a storm that is of the magnitude that hurricane Rita is (at the time of writing this update, maximum sustained winds are around 170MPH). So my suggestion is to please backup all of your data as soon as you can, to assure you do not lose any of your work that you have uploaded to the ElviCities server. To all those in the path of Hurricane Rita - you shouldn't be reading this email as you should already be heading for higher ground!

Sincerely,
Jordan Ritchie

Floriade in Canberra
17 September, Opening Day, is Elvis Day
Floriade celebrates popular music

SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 17TH IS ELVIS DAY

Elvis Day starts at 10.00am with performances at the CountryLink Village Stage, Commonwealth Park. Garry Buckley and Tony Haley are performing in the morning. At 1.30pm one of the best Elvis tribute artists in Australia, Mark Andrew, will perform. Steve Lennox from Parkes will be displaying jumpsuits from his collection.

ROCK 'N' ROLL GNOMES ADD COLOUR TO THE ACTEWAGL WEBSITE

This year will see the return of the gnomes to Floriade in the ActewAGL Rock 'n' Roll Gnome competition, appropriately named to coincide with this year's Floriade theme "Rock 'n' Roll in Bloom".

To celebrate the return of gnomes to Floriade, ActewAGL has released a gnome website banner that features a colouring-in studio that lets you paint a virtual gnome online - a first for the ActewAGL website.

By selecting "colour in a gnome" you can create your own original piece of gnome art. The banner also allows you to name and save your virtual gnome, and email your family and friends inviting them to view your gnome or colour in their own.

The gnomes have always been a huge success, raising funds for charity and adding a colourful and community-spirited element to Floriade. Participants are invited to purchase plaster gnomes for only $8.80 each from selected outlets - Magnet Mart, The Good Guys and the ActewAGL Home Connect Store - and paint and decorate them according to the theme. The best gnomes will share in $20,000 worth of prizes.

All proceeds from the sale of the competition gnomes will go to Koomarri - the leading service provider for people with a disability in Canberra and the surrounding NSW region.

For more information along with the terms and conditions and to colour in a gnome, visit www.actewagl.com.au.

New Orleans Disaster

We in Australia reach out to our brothers and sisters in New Orleans hit by the disastrous floods. If you are into praying, please pray for all the victims, and especially the poor, who have no resources to stockpile or escape, hoping they will be rescued before it is too late. Please donate what you can to the International Red Cross or other disaster relief organisations. We know that Elvis had immense compassion and would have done whatever he could for all victims. A recent source of information has also stated that the whereabouts of the great Fats Domino is unknown. He must be in our prayers too.

Update: We have heard the wonderful news that Fats Domino is safe.

At the same time, why did we see George Bush on television talking about going in to shoot and kill people (some gangsters, but very much poor people looting shops for themselves and their children to survive), instead of talking about going in to save people? Too little too late, too many dead. Where's the compassion? Or did we get it wrong about the aid going in?

Vote 1 for Elvis

Vote Elvstroem (the Australian race horse known as Elvis) to be the People's KING!

at tab.rsc01.net/servlet/website/ResponseForm?mHIEav05

Apparently an update on Voting in the competition indicated "Elvis" was running second as of about the 13th July. Voting finishes on the 31st July.

Elvstroem has been known as "Elvis" from day one of his racing career. That racing career finished on 26th June when he was retired. Elvstroem is now going to stud and we ran a small comp in regards to suggestions of names of future progeny ... Here's a couple of example entries that had links to Elvis Presley

1. Tupelo (Elvis Presely's birth place)
2. Amazing Grace (Sung beautifully by Elvis and linked to Graceland)
3. Left the Building (Elvis has ......)
4. Galahad (His acting role was as Kid Galahad where he was a fighter and a winner like our very own Elvis!)
5. ThankYouVeryMuch (Songs)
6. All Shook Up
7. A Little Less Conversation
